Sometimes, lasting change begins with a single, bold act of generosity. That’s exactly what happened with the Rinehart/Newlon Water Catchment Project — a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing habitat connectivity and long-term resilience for desert bighorn sheep in Arizona’s rugged Harcuvar Mountains.
At the heart of this effort is James Rinehart — lifelong outdoorsman, conservationist, and Ranch Company Owner and Broker Associate. James has long been recognized for his dedication to protecting wild landscapes, having helped preserve more than 75,000 acres through strategic land transactions and conservation easements. This time, he and his wife Patti went even further — donating land to support this critical project. The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society (ADBSS), with funding support from the National Wild Sheep Foundation, brought the project to life.
James and Patti’s contribution became the cornerstone of a powerful collaboration among private landowners, conservationists, and key organizations. The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society — a nonprofit committed to conserving and enhancing Arizona’s bighorn sheep populations — joined forces with the Wild Sheep Foundation, whose mission is to restore and sustain wild sheep populations across North America. Together, they’ve created a blueprint for effective, cooperative conservation.
Thanks to James and Patti’s vision and generosity, the Harcuvar Mountains are now better equipped to support thriving bighorn populations for generations to come. It’s a powerful reminder that when passionate individuals step up, meaningful and lasting conservation is not only possible — it’s inevitable.
