HISTORY

The Elkhorn House was built in 1875, and for many years was a popular resort for mountain parties, hunters and pleasure seekers. At the time it was built, it was reported that there were as many as ten springs on the property. A wagon road, which can still be seen in some spots, connected the property and the stage line to Fort Collins. The hotel touted high-end features, dining room, library, trophy hunting, fishing and mining prospects. A stable was kept on site for guests and weary travelers. It also served as a post office. Unfortunately the Elkhorn House burned to the ground in 1890. Some of the remnants of the hotel are still intact, along with hay cribs and other artifacts. The current owner has put together a 17 page history of the property, with detailed information and news articles.

IMPROVEMENTS

Built in 1993, the log home is warm and inviting. On the main level is a large country kitchen with a center island and breakfast bar. There is also an eating area which adjoins the living room area complete with a wood burning stove. A covered deck wraps around most of the cabin with views of the entire valley and to the south. The upper level loft consists of the master bedroom with two private balconies, bathroom, dressing area and closets. The lower walk out level has two spacious bedrooms, bath, laundry and utility area. The home has unique built in features, such as an original wagon wheel. The home is serviced by a well, electric and propane. Phone and internet services are available. The log home would be ideal for an off the grid property.

The 3,000 square foot steel storage barn was built in 1998. It has three overhead doors, concrete floors and is fully foam insulated. It is situated on a large pad above the creek area and secluded from the log home. A second building site is located next to the barn with utilities already stubbed in.
